Institute for Molecular Bioscience, The University of Queensland
As one of the world’s leading universities, The University of Queensland (UQ) engages in the creation, preservation, transfer and application of knowledge. The University’s Institute for Molecular Bioscience is a leading global research institute. IMB was established in 2000 as UQ’s first research institute and is the cornerstone of one of the largest bioscience research precincts in Australia.
The ACRF funded microscopy facility within IMB is currently acquiring ground-breaking imaging technologies including a Lattice Light Sheet Microscope and Leica STED 3X with FLIM capabilities. The Senior Microscopist will be responsible for the management of twenty-two advanced optical, fluorescence and confocal microscopes; for ensuring the instrumentation is maintained and operating to factory specifications; and to provide microscopy research support and training. The role will use a variety of techniques to support researchers from within the Institute, University and external clients to design, conduct, analyse and report on experiments.
The successful candidate should have a relevant qualification in Biological or Biomedical fields, and will ideally bring strong experiences and high level skills in optical fluorescence microscopy, with knowledge of the current status in optical imaging and analysis techniques as well as instrumentation. An excellent record of achievement will be essential, with demonstrated ability and potential for excellence and productivity in research support. Experience in the use of ImageJ/FIJI, Matlab and other image analysis software, including coding experience in traditional languages is also considered to be beneficial. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in cell, tissue and embryonic sample preparation for fluorescence microscopy would be advantageous. You should also have an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve research outcomes.
The position is a full-time, continuing HEW level 7 role. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,883.66 - $89,559.15 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $95,803.88 - $104,784.21 p.a.).
